Stephanie Smith is the recently appointed Executive Director of Archives, Museums & Libraries within the department of Communities, Culture & Heritage. She comes to this position after working in the Nova Scotia Museum for the past 17 years in varying capacities, completing her tenure there as the museum’s director.
After completing the Masters in Museum Studies program at the University of Toronto, Stephanie began her museum career by creating the first Museum Studies course for the Association of Nova Scotia Museums (then known as the Federation of Nova Scotian Heritage). Her work within the NSM has included overseeing the development of the museum’s first Interpretive Master Plan for Nova Scotia (2009) which has provided the basis for the NSM’s renewal efforts for the past decade. Her extensive project work has involved a range of partnerships with local management groups, consultants and special interest groups. Most recently, she was the NSM lead for the Ross Farm Learning Centre project and the development of the new Black Loyalist Heritage Centre. Overall, her work has focused on advancing diversity in and the social impact of the Nova Scotia Museum.
